The Know India Programme (KIP) is a three-week orientation programme for Indian diaspora youth conducted with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, science & technology, communication & information technology and culture.
KIP provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations and experiences, and to develop closer bonds with the contemporary India. Four to five such programmes are conducted every year
The content of the programme broadly includes the following:
Presentations on the country, political process, developments in various sectors
Interaction with faculty and students at a prestigious university/college/institute
Presentation on the industrial development and visits to some industries
Visit to a village to better understand the typical village life in India
Exposure to Indian media
Interaction with NGOs and organizations dealing with women affairs
Visit to places of historical importance/monuments
Taking part in cultural programmes
Exposure to yoga
Call on high dignitaries, which may include the President of India, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and Ministers in-charge of Overseas Indian Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports.
The details and the eligibility criteria for KIP are as follows:
Candidates should be overseas Indian students/young professionals in the age group of 18-25 years.
Candidates should mention their first name, middle name and the surname with Ms. or Mr., as the case may be, along with passport number, date of birth, nationality, educational qualification and work experience.
Interest in a particular area of study or training should be indicated to further the participant's career prospects.
They should submit a medical card with details of blood group, known allergies and other details relating to their health. This should be accompanied by other particulars of the nominee.
A health insurance should also be taken for the period of stay in India at their cost.
The participants should bring formal dress for formal occasions/meeting with Indian dignitaries.
90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) is refundable to the participants on successful completion of the programme..
Expenditure on local hospitality including their lodging, boarding, internal transport, internship fees and other charges will be borne by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the respective state government. They will also be granted gratis visa.
